Stupid drama.

Look, you guys. You’re making Tsukasa cry with your dorama.

So I haven’t posted in over a month for various reasons; however, just as I’m prepared to get back into the swing of things, issues that I’m sure you’re all now quite familiar with have arisen and shaken the unity of the ABC. How this actually became public and so well-known simply baffles me, since, membership in the ABC is completely voluntary, and the exchanges that began this whole controversy should never have been made public in the first place. *shrug*

I had warned Owen of the dangers of getting too many people aboard too quickly, having had much experience with rapidly-growing online communities. He didn’t heed my warnings, and things developed exactly as I had suggested they might. That said, unlike some of the others, I fully intend for better or worse to remain part of the ABC barring being spontaneously banned.

Also, as I posted on our boards, lay off of Owen, guys. Sure, his posts both on the Google group and on his blog might all be unnecessarily tl;dr, and he’s certainly guilty of some questionable “leadership,” but he also goes through a lot of trouble to keep everything organized and plan activities. Even if you just skim through all of his needlessly long pieces of writing and think he’s a stuck-up pretentious prick like I do, you still have to appreciate what he’s done. I mean, you knew all of these things before you signed up, right?

I kinda wish this whole thing could just be written off as a big elaborate April Fools’ joke or something, but that unfortunately is not the case. It’s probably too late to stop a mass exodus of members, but that’s probably for the better anyway. The drama will pass, and everyone will move on. Nothing new.

A Tennis Match for the Ages (Clannad 18)

I’m sure all of you watching Clannad through episode eighteen are already well aware that the episode was definitely something special. Owen has already done a darn good job of covering its merits as far as realism and content, so I’ll be focusing on what made the last few minutes of the episode so effective as far as formal elements and how they emphasize the content.

One of the few times in which I disagree with KyoAni’s choice of “camera” angle.

The scene begins with Tomoyo continuing to improve her public image, exchanging a handshake with her opponent before the match in a show of sportsmanship. The next shot is somewhat amusing: Sunohara is lamenting that Tomoyo isn’t playing against another girl, while all of the spectators displayed on-screen are male outside of Nagisa (with one of them smiling, likely in a similar train of thought to Sunohara’s).
